People Are Suffering… Some Are Dying…

1 in 5 people have a mental health condition at any given time and every 40 Seconds someone dies by Suicide.

In the United States, Suicide is the 2nd Leading Cause of death in 10 - 35 year-olds. In 2022, there were 1.7 Million Suicide Attempts, over 49,300 deaths by Suicide, and in 2020, 582 children aged 10 -14 died by suicide in 2021 which is over TWICE the number of suicides compared to homicides.

Mental Health Conditions Are Complicated…

We acknowledge progress in the movement to “Break the Stigma” but … it’s not enoughWE MUST DO BETTER! At Walt’s Waltz, we work with experts to determine effective ways to help those suffering with mental health conditions through our progressive initiatives.

Meet Kim Fabian, Recently Retired Executive Director for Greenville Center for Creative Arts.

"Greenville Center for Creative Arts was honored to become the first Stigma-Free Zone in Upstate South Carolina and support Walt's Waltz in shedding light on the important mental health issues that affect our community. As an organization that promotes creativity and connections, GCCA's mission is enhanced by this partnership, which helps us foster a safe and welcoming space for people to express their struggles and feel supported."

Jenna Tamisiea Elser, the Producing Artistic Director for Glow Lyric Theatre.

“Glow Lyric Theatre is so honored to be a Stigma-Free Zone with Walt’s Waltz. If we are to create the best opera and musical theatre possible, then it is vital that our theatre be a space that acknowledges the importance of mental health. With the goal of the performing arts being to create empathy and understanding of the human condition, we are so proud to partner with a mental health organization like Walt’s Waltz that continues to save lives with their work. What could be more rewarding than that?”

Zawu Y. Duyann, our international Ambassador from Liberia.

“Our people are dying, and no one is helping us. Our culture tends to perceive war survivors with PTSD as possessed and transmission can be “caught” through eye contact. So, many individuals tend to call the police and even throw rocks when they are in the presence of PTSD survivors.”
